EDUCATION IN INDIA
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, United Arab Emirates, recognizes about 186 educational insitutes in India which include National/State/ Autonomous/Deemed/Government aided Universities and Colleges.

Admission requirements for universities in India
Admission requirements vary between universities and subjects in India. Foreign nationals, though exempted from taking the entrance tests, however, have to fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria which may differ as per the course and University selected. The foreign national are also expected to pay much higher fees. The foreign national is expected to be well versed with English language as it is the medium of instruction at most Indian universities.

Name of the Programme

Minimum Eligibility Criteria
       Bachelors

Evidence of required academic performance must be in the form of certified English transcripts listing all the courses with the grades or marks earned. Transcripts in languages other than English are not acceptable. Applicants for any of the Under-Graduate Course must have completed 12 years of formal schooling.

The minimum admission requirement in terms of the percentage of marks that are required by a candidate for being admitted to a course varies in many cases from year to year.

       Masters

For admission to a post-graduate programme of studies in any discipline, one must have completed 12 years of formal education at the School level followed by a Bachelor’s Degree of at least 3 years duration. However, the admission to post-graduate courses is rather restricted and the applicant should have an excellent academic record to stand a fair chance for admission.

          MPhil/PhD

The minimum admission requirement for the research degree (PhD) is a Master degree of Indian University or any other degree recognized as equivalent to it. The admission for these courses is very limited and is decided by the respective Departments/Faculties on the basis of a very sound academic record along with a detailed research proposal.

 

Student Visa Requirement
International students who wish to study in India should obtain a Student Visa before travelling to India. Once he/she has been issued a provisional eligibility letter to study at the desired Indian University, he/she should immediately apply for his/her student visa. He/she should apply for a student visa before he/she comes to India by contacting the Indian Mission in his/her home country. The Indian Mission will be able to tell him/her the average turnaround time for a visa application.

As a part of the application process for a Student Visa, a student would be required to produce a Provisional Eligibility Letter from the University as a proof that he/she is eligible.

Can foreign students study in India?
Ans.
Yes, they can.
 
Q2.
Can foreign students come on Tourist Visa to explore admission in some courses/institutes and get Student Visa while in India?
Ans.
No. In order to enable the foreign students to explore various options to study in India, he/she can apply for provisional Student Visa of 6 months duration from Indian Mission abroad and once he/she gets the confirmed admission while in India, he/she can apply for a Student Visa to the local FRRO/FRO along with necessary documentary evidences of confirmed admission, financial standing etc.

Can foreign students get a Student Visa directly from Indian Missions abroad?
Ans.
Yes, they can provide they have confirmed admission to a course in a reputed/recognized institute in India.
Q4.
What is the duration of Student Visa?
Ans.
Student Visa can be of 5 years or for the duration of the course whichever is earlier.
 
Q5.
What are the formalities that foreign students should do on arrival?
Ans.
Foreign students holding Student Visa of more than 180 days are required to register himself/herself with the local FRRO/FRO within 14 days of arrival.
 
Q6.
Is there any restriction on the number of courses that a foreign student can pursue?
Ans.
No. However, the overall band of the Student Visa regime cannot exceed more than 5 years.

Can a foreign student change the course or institute or both while in India?
Ans.
Yes, but with the permission of the local FRRO/FRO and the Institute(s) concerned and subject to no adverse activity.
