H.E Dr. Ahmed Al Banna, UAE Ambassador to India visited the Sabarmati Ashram, commemorating the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.

Dr. Ahmed Albanna was received warmly by the Director of Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust and his team. He was first taken to the statute of  Mahatma Gandhi where he paid respect and offered a garland of khadi thread to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

Dr. Ahmed Albanna was taken to the important places of the Ashram, explaining the life of Mahatma Gandhi that started from the room of the spinning wheel, to the other important places ending with the Mahatma Gandhi Museum. Mr Tridip  Suhrud, explained to Dr. Ahmed Albanna that it has been the Ashram’s Endeavour to upload the best archiving practices and it has adopted newer technologies for preservation, conservation and dissemination of the archival holdings. He has also mentioned that the archives are housed in a secure, fire and earthquake- resistant vault which is temperature – controlled.

Mr. Tridip Suhud showed  few of  the most valuable  collections connected with Mahatma Gandhi’s life. He was further Guided to the Library associated with the work and life of Mahatma Gandhi. And how the Ashram has over the years not only assisted research but also conducted its own research and publication programme. It has one of the largest collection of Gandhi’s original manuscripts and other papers related to his principal associates, official correspondence and personal artifacts.

Dr. Ahmed Al Banna was  inspired  by the collection and said that Mahatma Gandhi’s journey and struggle for freedom is inspiration for all. He was overwhelmed and thanked them for making him understand by sharing minute details of Mahatma Gandhi’s life.
