The Embassy - Press Releases - Ambassador Dr. Ahmed Al Banna meets Shri U. P. Singh Additional Secretary & Director General of National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG)
Press Releases
AMBASSADOR DR. AHMED AL BANNA MEETS SHRI U.P. SINGH ADDITIONAL SECRETARY & DIRECTOR GENERAL OF NATIONAL MISSION FOR CLEAN GANGA (NMCG)

On 28 December 2016, H.E. Dr. Ahmed Albanna (UAE Ambassador to India) met with the Additional Secretary & Director General (NMCG), Shri U.P. Singh.

Both the parties reviewed the progress made on different initiatives taken by the Indian government in the fields of Environment. They also discussed about the flagship programmes of Swachh Bharat Mission and National Mission for Clean Ganga to work together.

Shri U.P. Singh also shared the daunting challenges faced by the government to complete such initiatives. But he added that despite these challenges, he is inspired and optimistic about the developments of these projects.

He added the need for revamping the Ganga cleaning program was being widely recognised. The problem is compounded by inadequate flows. It was felt that a comprehensive response is necessary, covering water quality and flow, sustainable access, prevention and control of pollution, food and energy security, in the form of a national mission by giving the Ganga the status of a national river.

He mentioned that Ganga has a special place in the hearts and minds of all Indians and this needs to be recognized. It was felt that a model for river cleaning should be set up through a new institutional mechanism.

Both the sides also discussed about the areas of connectivity that will strengthen and deepen the relationship between two countries.

H.E. Dr. Ahmed Albanna highlighted that “UAE is happy to be an ideal partner in India’s  Endeavour to create the River Ganga Clean: we are very strong at planning and have developed  the Technologies to bring together and develop solutions.
