Hindi Movie – Mughal-e-Azam (English: the Great Mughal) is a 1960 Indian epic Historical drama film directed by Asif and was produced by Shapoorji Pallonji Group. Now Shapoorji Pallonji Group in association with Mumbai’s National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) has produced Mughal-e-Azam, the spectacular musical stage show.
The SP Group has nurtured the ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ brand since the scripting of the Prithviraj Kapoor - Dilip Kumar - Madhubala starrer movie, which is based on the legendary courtship of Mughal prince Salim and court dancer Anarkali, a relationship that Emperor Akbar disapproves of. The movie, which was originally directed by K. Asif and presented in black-and-white, was transformed into colour movie with Dolby-Digital sound in 2004.
Ambassador Dr Ahmed Albanna met the producers and discussed in the length the upcoming play that is organised in Dubai, UAE from 3-7 May at DUCTAC theatre, Mall of Emirates. He informed the Ambassador that Musical plays bring in the dynamism that is often lacking in a traditional play. With technology, we can provide an experience of a live cinematic performance. This musical has the soul of theatre and the scale of a cinema. We are getting an overwhelming response and now plan to take it to more cities Since we are constantly getting overwhelming response, so we planned to take it international. He further added that these stories have been an important part of Middle Eastern folk culture since medieval times, and their long history of transmission and development over the course of centuries is a testament to their enduring appeal.
H.E. Dr. Ahmed Albanna said” That I am very interested in enhancing the UAE-India cultural relationship, since India and UAE share age-old cultural ties. He further added that art is meant for the audience as much as it is meant for the artist.
He further added that there are limited formats for live entertainment, which includes sports, musical concerts and drama. A musical play gives a unique energy of watching something live in a mass. He mentioned that in the business of art, the success parameter is not merely ROI (Return on Investment) but the impact it is able to create on the audience.
