Ambassador Dr. Ahmed Al Banna met Mr. Sandeep Malhotra, CEO IFFCO Kisan

New Delhi | April 17, 2018

In the afternoon of 17 April 2018, H.E. Dr. Ahmed Albanna met Mr. Sandeep Malhotra, CEO of IFFCO KISAN India at Ambassadors Office, Embassy of United Arab Emirates India. Mr. Malhotra briefed the Ambassador about the organisation and work done by them in detail. He mentioned that Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) is a well known cooperative society engaged in production and distribution of Chemical Fertilisers and marketing of agriculture related products. IFFCO is renowned for its activities associated with empowerment of farmers & cooperatives. IFFCO is the backbone of IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited and provides its vast experience of rural development, agriculture and allied knowledge to ensure that latest information and services are provided on the mobile phone.

Mr. Malhotra explained to the Ambassador that Agriculture provides gainful employment and livelihood for majority of India’s population and contributes significantly to the basket of national income. But the true potential of the sector has yet to be realized and therefore, ‘Unleashing the potential of Indian Agriculture’ becomes pertinent now and time has come to rethink on this issue and reach a consensus to promote accelerated growth. He further discussed direct supply to UAE market, removing the mediators in between that will provide higher margins to farmers.

Ambassador Dr. Ahmed Albanna mentioned that one should evolve ideas and development strategies to overcome those challenges. He further added that to associate with UAE consumers, requires a platform, where the policies and practices practised in India can be replicated or modified to suit our specific needs.

He also advised Mr. Malhotra to connect with top 10 food and Vegetables wholesale regulated Markets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. He further acknowledged that direct marketing has many advantages such as shortening marketing channels, eliminating middlemen and above all bringing producer-seller in direct transaction with consumers.

The discussion ended with abundance of hope and a plethora of ideas waiting to be implemented.
