Ambasador Dr. Ahmed Al Banna invited as a
Chief Guest of Honor at UAE's First Urdu Play
in Delhi by Goonj Productions
New Delhi | January 27, 2018
Dr. Ahmed Al-Banna, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to India, on Saturday (January 27),was invited as the chief guest of honour at UAE’S first urdu play in Delhi by Goonj Productions. This is the first time any UAE’s community theatre is performing in India.
Dr. Al-Banna met the visiting team members of the play “Mian Biwi Aur Wagah,”which is based on the dying tradition of letter-writing, and highlighted the role of art and culture in the strengthening of India-UAE relations. The play has been written and produced by a group of South Asian writers and media professionals.
UAE and India have had very fruitful business and trade relations over the years. However, there is scope for further enhancement of cultural relations as part of what we often call soft power,” said Dr. Al-Banna.
He also said that the embassy is in the process of organizing programs in various Indian cities to showcase the UAE’s cultural heritage. “A lot of Indians are unaware about how much of India exists in the UAE,” he said.
Members of the play thanked the ambassador for the support received. “This play would not have been possible without the UAE as writers, actors and directors all come from different parts of the world and call Dubai home,” said director of the play Dhruti Shah D’Souza.
