The Media briefing for the World EXPO 2020, which is scheduled to be held from 20 October, 2020 to 10 April, 2021 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates was held at Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan. Participants included representatives of the different Indian States. The briefing was organised by the ministry of external affairs, Government of India in association with the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, supported by FICCI. The meeting was chaired by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Alanna, UAE Ambassador to India, H.E. Mr Navdeep Singh Suri, Indian Ambassador to UAE, Joint Secretary (MEA), Joint Secretary (MOC), SG (FICCI).
During the briefing, Attendees were provided with an overview of what to be expected at world EXPO 2020. The triennial EXPO 2020, dubai will be the first EXPO in Middle East. India's participation in Expo 2020 is reflective of the comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and UAE. The relations between both countries have particularly strengthened and expanded with regular exchange of visits at highest levels in recent years. Apart from the traditional people-to-people and business ties, trade and investment add further vibrancy to the relationship.
The pavilion will focus on connecting minds through sustainable and futuristic technologies integrated with rich traditions which have been nurtured in 5,000 years old Indian civilization. It will be a fine blend of modern outlook and of billion dreams and millions of opportunities with a focus on building a happy world. The immense cultural diversity of India will also be on display at the pavilion.
The Theme of the Exposition is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, representative of UAE’s vision that this is a way to bring nations and people closer, through collaborations and partnerships towards building a better world. Under the umbrella of the Main Theme, Expo 2020 has three (3) Subthemes, Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.
India’s pavilion at EXPO 2020 will be on a extra large plot (about one acre) in the ‘Opportunity’ segment. Focus will be given to India’s advances in Space, Pharma, IT, Renewable Energy, Telecom Sectors.
The pavilion will be developed in public-private partnership mode. Leading industries and businesses will work with Central Government and State Governments to participate in India’s Pavilion. A number of State Governments, various ministries of central government and major industry associations and businesses have shown interest in partnering and participating in World EXPO 2020 which will take place for six months beginning October 2020.
H.E. Dr. Ahmed Albanna added that the Participation of India in the World’s most Prominent Event will have an access to a truly Global Platform to build new connections and strengthen the relationships. Since UAE sits at the heart of newly emerging centres of Economic Gravity and EXPO 2020 Dubai will be the first international exposition ever to be held in the region of the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia. The EXPO 2020 Dubai has been designed to deliver a memorable experience for all visitors that will embark on a journey of discovery and leave them inspired to contribute to the common vision of our shared future. |
