In accordance with the UAE Federal Government Strategy, the Ministry of Foreign Trade was established in February of 2008 with HE Sheikha Lubna Al Qassimi appointed as Minister of Foreign Trade. The move aligns with the commitment evident in the Federal Strategy for further specialization across federal government institutions as demanded by the UAE’s economic diversification and expansion plans.
The increasing diversification of the UAE’s economy, including the massive expansion in trade infrastructure, produces a plethora of economic issues pertaining to trade, which demand dynamic and active engagement. The Ministry will tackle these issues comprehensively, and work towards guaranteeing and enhancing the UAE’s position as the region’s premier trade hub.
According to the UAE Federal Customs Authority, the UAE already accounts for the majority of goods imported into the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) economies. The extensive infrastructural development for air and sea freight throughout the country will further enhance the UAE’s position as one of the most important trading centers in the region.
